If sufficient land is available, I would also raise sheep for meat and wool (plus hay for livestock). Depending on if a farm partner becomes available we may expand to Organic grains as we have experience in Organic grain production.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

I have been working with Extension for 9 months, after completing an M.S. in Agronomy at Penn State. My area of specialty is weed science/weed control in reduced-herbicide and herbicide-free production systems. Prior to that I was an Organic vegetable farmer in MD for 6 years. We ran a 300 + member CSA and sold wholesale in the DC metro area. We also raised broilers, layers, and turkeys. I also shepherded for 2 years, a small flock of meat/wool sheep. And I have over two decades of experience working with horses. I am a County Agricultural Extension Agent in Blair County, PA. It is an area filled with large dairy farms as well as several crop, mixed produce, greenhouse, and smaller dairy enterprises. My husband recently took a position on the faculty of Appalachian State University so we will be moving to Boone later this summer (2014). I am hoping to get back to farming when we move. I am most interested in taking over land for a retiring farmer, developing an arrangement where we can gradually take over care of the land and eventually be able to live on the farm full-time. But I am also open to sharing a land parcel with someone else who has a business operating on it, or even serving as manager/assistant manager/employee for an operation that needs help. I am pretty open!!
