Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard), Sale (Owner Financed), Lease with Option to Buy. More info: We are looking for a standard sale or a lease with option to buy if property has a livable residence.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Barn, Fencing, Well / Pond / Other water source, Livestock facilities, Farmer housing. More info: We would require any small barn or outbuildings that could be covered to barn space suitable for goats. If possible some type of existing fencing would be great but we aren't picky! As we have children we would love an existing residence but this isn't a deal breaker. We expect all structures would need some "sweat equity".

Current production on farm:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Fallow, Field crops, Flowers, Hay or pasture, Herbs, Hogs, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products. More info: Most any current production would be totally fine.

Current farming practices:

Biodynamic, Conventional, Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified, None, the property is not being farmed. More info: We are not picky about current practices. We do not expect to be organic in the immediate future.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer, Employee, Manager

Number of years experience:

15

Other qualifications:

Academic degree in agriculture or related field. More info: I was raised on a family farm and we are currently raising livestock on rented land. In addition, I have managed a native plant nursery and farmed in our free time.

Production goals:

Field crops, Orchard, Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Woodlot or forest products. More info: Our business plan consists of a long term goal of creating a farmstead goat dairy that produces goat milk soaps, candies and confections. This long term endeavor will be supported by our short term goal of producing blueberries and blackberries for market and you pick.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

We are an enthusiastic couple, who after graduating from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, traveled the west before ending up back where they started! We are building a family and our business through hard work and ingenuity. Our long term goal is a farmstead goat dairy that produces goat milk soaps, candies and confections. We believe value added products are the only way to support ourselves with our love of dairy goats. To financially support ourselves while growing this infrastructure we intend to produce small fruits for market and you pick. In the meantime we are also growing our family with a one year old and another on the way. We believe in the value of raising our children on a farm the way we were raised while focusing on ecological agricultural principles.

Additional background info: The wife grew up on a diverse farm that produced quality meat and vegetables. In addition we have worked on several farms and have raised our own goats for 5 years now. We have also worked as nursery managers and foresters. It is our belief that working land should be kept working and we want to be the ones to do the work.
